The lodge is built in the local whinstone from Walltown quarry (just behind the property) and was originally the site office and weighing station during the excavation of stone. The whinstone fault known as the whinsyke gave Hadrian the idea to use the natural crags from east to west to build his northern frontier. This was to defend against the marauding barbarians of the north.
Our home is situated in a large garden surrounded by beautiful Northumbrian countryside, spend your evening sitting in the garden, enjoy a short walk around the quarry, relax with a book or sample a Northumbrian pub atmosphere.

enjoy england 4 star rating
